ALPHA CRC GmbH - Berlin office

1st September was the opening day for our new office in Berlin, where we now have ten translators and reviewers working from English and French into German. This responds to the wish of some of our clients to have translations done in-country, and provides us with much-needed extra German capacity.

Berlin seemed a logical choice. Not only is it once again the capital of Germany, but it is a marvellously diverse place that is attractive for tourists, artists, professionals, young families and anyone who likes cultural and ethnic diversity. It is particularly interesting also for anyone interested in architecture, as the city is still re-inventing itself.

Our office is in the district of Kreuzberg, one of the most culturally diverse neighbourhoods you can imagine. Once pretty run-down, it has been a symbol of Berlin's colourful alternative culture for many years and is fast developping into Berlin's hippest and "greenest" district in more sense than one. Its wide streets, such as Gneisenau boulevard, where we are, is lined with trees and has a central green strip with benches to sit on and a cycling/jogging path.

Bergmannstraße with its fashionable Italian, Turkish and Asian restaurants is only 5 minutes's walk away, as is the lovely covered Marheinekplatz market, where you will find a wonderful variety of produce, from Greek olives to German breads and sausages to French cheeses, a tea shop, ice cream, etc. etc. .

Our office is easily reachable from Schönefeld airport. Take the bus to Rudow or Hermannsplatz and then the U-Bahn to Südstern. We're less than 5 minutes' walk away, at 66-67 Gneisenaustraße. The office is part of a "Gewerbehof", a typical Berlin institution. The ornate facade towards the street is in Neo-Renaissance style, built in 1908. This part was the residence of Wilhelm Peters and shows off his wealth, which he owed to the furniture that was being made in the 5-storey buildings surrounding three courtyards. These now house various medium-sized workshops and companies of all descriptions.
