IT
Alpha was founded in 1987 at the start of the PC revolution. Its first job was to localize the operating system of one of the earliest desktop computers, at a time when the idea of creating a foreign-language version was an entirely novel concept. Today, software developers routinely localize their products in many languages of the world. The initial localization effort is a significant effort for each language, and each revision cycle requires an updated translation.
To maximize return on investment, localization has to be carried out as rapidly as possible and achieve the required quality at the smallest possible cost. Achieving this has been Alpha's mission for the last 20 years. We have embraced each new advance in translation technology - translation memories, terminology management, workflow management, machine translation - and sought to integrate them into its production processes in a way that best enhances the productivity of our human translators.
Software is not just computer programs; not just lines of code. With a software application come help systems, manuals, technical specifications, marketing material, tutorials, presentations. The content of an application is not just text, but can include graphics, audio, video and other material. Alpha's philosophy has always been that the task of localizing software could be carried out more efficiently if all the disciplines required to localize these different content types worked together under one roof. Using in-house teams of expert translators, software engineers, audio engineers, graphic artists and desktop publishing operators, coordinated by project managers working only a few feet away allows us to deliver quality localization in the most cost-effective and responsive way, and Alpha now provides localization services for many of the world's largest software companies and hardware manufacturers.
